NAIROBI, Kenya — FIFA President Gianni Infantino has congratulated Gor Mahia FC following the club’s triumph in the 2025/2026 FKF Premier League season.
In a letter addressed to Hussein Mohammed on May 28, 2026, Infantino praised the club for its consistent performances throughout the season, saying the title reflected the team’s hard work and determination.
“By means of this letter, I am pleased to congratulate the recently crowned champions of Kenya, Gor Mahia FC,” Infantino wrote.
“Their constant efforts and results throughout the season have paid off, resulting in this important title.”
FIFA Recognises Progress in Kenyan Football
Infantino also commended the Football Kenya Federation for its continued efforts in developing football in the country.
“While thanking you and your Federation for your continuous support, work, and dedication for the development of football in your country, I look forward, dear President, to seeing you again soon,” the FIFA president stated.
The message was later acknowledged publicly by Hussein Mohammed, who described the gesture as recognition of progress being made within Kenyan football.
“On behalf of Football Kenya Federation, I acknowledge with gratitude FIFA’s congratulatory message to Gor Mahia FC for winning the SportPesa Premier League,” Hussein said in a statement shared online.
FKF Vows to Strengthen Local League
Hussein noted that FIFA’s recognition reinforced the federation’s commitment to building a more competitive domestic league capable of producing clubs that can excel at the continental level.
“This gesture reflects FIFA’s recognition of the progress being made in Kenyan football,” he stated.
“It also reinforces the Federation’s resolve to build a stronger, more competitive league that can consistently produce clubs capable of excelling in Africa.”
The FKF president further reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to improving governance standards and promoting integrity within the sport.
Gor Mahia Extends Domestic Dominance
Gor Mahia’s latest league victory further cements the club’s position as Kenya’s most successful football team historically.
The club has dominated Kenyan football for decades and remains one of East Africa’s most recognised football institutions, boasting a large fan base locally and across the region.
The title also secures Gor Mahia a place in continental competitions, where Kenyan clubs have often struggled to make deep runs in recent years due to financial, administrative, and infrastructural challenges.
Focus Shifts to Continental Competitions
Kenyan football has recently witnessed renewed efforts aimed at improving league professionalism, club licensing, youth development, and infrastructure standards.
Analysts say FIFA’s public recognition of Gor Mahia’s achievement signals growing international attention on reforms within Kenyan football administration following years of governance disputes and FIFA interventions.
The federation now faces pressure to translate domestic league success into stronger performances in continental tournaments such as the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
