MARSABIT, Kenya — Five people have died, and another sustained serious injuries following a collision involving two trucks along the Marsabit–Isiolo Road early Friday.
The accident occurred at about 4 a.m. at Kargi Junction, approximately 10 kilometres from Marsabit Town.
Marsabit County Police Commander Leonard Kimaiyo said both trucks were transporting beans and heading towards Isiolo when one vehicle rammed into the rear of the other.
According to the police commander, four people died on the spot, while a fifth victim succumbed to injuries after being rushed to the Marsabit County Referral and Teaching Hospital.
The injured survivor is receiving treatment at the same facility.
Police officers, led by the Marsabit Central Sub-County Police Commander, responded to the scene, secured the area and launched investigations into the cause of the crash.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to the Marsabit County Referral and Teaching Hospital mortuary pending identification and post-mortem examinations.
Kimaiyo urged motorists to observe traffic regulations, maintain safe following distances and exercise caution while using the country’s highways to help reduce road accidents.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.
