Former Gender CS Aisha Jumwa Quits UDA

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Former Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has announced her resignation from President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), ending her association with the ruling party.

Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, Jumwa said the decision followed what she described as a period of deep reflection, prayer and consultations with the people she represents.

“After deep reflection, heartfelt prayer and countless consultations with the people I serve, I have made one of the most difficult decisions of my political life,” Jumwa said.

“From today, Aisha Jumwa Katana is no longer a member of the United Democratic Alliance,” she added.

The former Cabinet Secretary did not immediately announce her next political destination or indicate whether she intends to join another political party.

Jumwa, a prominent Coast politician, previously served in President Ruto’s Cabinet as the Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage after the 2022 General Election.

Her departure from UDA is expected to fuel speculation over her next political move ahead of the 2027 General Election.
