NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a fresh attack on the Kenya Kwanza administration and Nairobi County leadership, accusing them of mismanaging the capital and presiding over widespread insecurity, corruption and poor service delivery.
In a statement issued after meeting a delegation of opinion leaders from Westlands Constituency led by Senior Counsel Nelson Havi, Gachagua claimed Nairobi had deteriorated significantly under President William Ruto and Governor Johnson Sakaja.
He alleged that insecurity had worsened in the city, accusing what he described as “state-sponsored militia” of operating with impunity alongside police officers. Gachagua further claimed the situation had created fear among residents and discouraged tourists and investors from visiting the capital.
The former deputy president also criticized ongoing demolitions and evictions in parts of Nairobi, alleging that families, including women and children, had been left homeless.
He further raised concerns over congestion in public schools, poor drainage systems, and what he termed widespread corruption at City Hall, particularly within the county’s planning department.
Gachagua said the concerns were presented to him during consultations with the Westlands delegation, which he said focused on the future of Nairobi and the country’s political direction ahead of what he referred to as the formation of a “Sixth Administration.”
“I am disturbed by the graphic details presented to me on the rot in our capital city, Nairobi. Consultations continue,” Gachagua said.
The former deputy president has in recent months intensified consultations with political leaders, professionals and community groups across the country as he continues to position himself within the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
