Kelvin Kinuthia Considers Name Change Over ID Identification Challenges

NAIROBI, Kenya — Content creator Kelvin Kinuthia has revealed that he is considering changing his name after experiencing difficulties related to identification when using his national ID card.

Speaking during an interview with Oga Obinna on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Kinuthia said the challenges have made routine identification processes complicated in certain situations.

He explained that confusion often arises when people do not immediately recognise him from his identification documents, leading to awkward exchanges during official verification.

“I was thinking, because it is too hectic,” Kinuthia said.

ID Confusion Sparks Reflection

Kinuthia recounted an incident where he accompanied his mother to a place where both were required to present identification documents.

He said his mother submitted her ID without issue, but questions arose when his own document was presented.

“Kuna mahali nilienda kupeana ID…We were with my mom, tukaenda somewhere, and we had to provide our IDs,” he said.

He added that the situation created confusion, as some individuals struggled to reconcile his public identity with the details on his ID card.

“Mom alipeana IDs, and the guy was like ID yako iko wapi? It just brings complications,” he explained.

Considering a New Identity

Kinuthia said the repeated experiences have made him think seriously about adopting a new name that better reflects his public persona.

He noted that while many people recognise him, others still react with surprise when they encounter his official identification details.

“Most of the people wanakujua. Kuna wenye sasa hawakujui, wanashangaa,” he said.

He added that he is still contemplating the idea and has not formally begun any legal process.

“I am thinking about it, I want a unique name,” Kinuthia said.

Past Reflections on Personal Transformation

The remarks come months after Kinuthia publicly discussed considering a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure after achieving his fitness goals.

He had previously said he was focused on weight loss and was evaluating possible cosmetic procedures to address body changes associated with significant weight reduction.

“For me, I think that is something I will consider doing (BBL),” he said at the time.

Kinuthia added that he was thinking about his long-term appearance goals as part of his personal transformation journey.

The latest comments add to ongoing public conversations around identity, personal branding, and self-expression among Kenyan digital content creators.
