NAIROBI, Kenya – Motorists using Mombasa Road are set to experience temporary traffic disruption this weekend as the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) undertakes the installation of beams for the Syokimau Railway Footbridge.
In a public notice issued Saturday, KeNHA said the affected section lies near Syokimau Railway Station, with the disruption scheduled to begin at midnight on Saturday, July 12, and continue through Sunday, July 13.
“This closure is necessary to facilitate the safe installation of the fabricated beams for the Syokimau Railway Footbridge,” the notice read.
Affected Areas
Motorists heading past Gateway Mall toward Mlolongo and beyond will not be able to access the section during this period.
Additionally, access routes around Syokimau Railway Station, Teco Mall, and adjoining feeder roads will be affected.
However, the Nairobi-bound lanes on Mombasa Road will remain open to ease traffic flow into the city.
KeNHA Advisory
KeNHA has urged all road users to cooperate with traffic police and marshals on the ground for smooth flow and safety.
“Motorists are advised to obey traffic signs and directions from police officers and marshals who will be on site throughout the operation,” the Authority added.
The Syokimau footbridge is expected to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity in the busy commuter and commercial area, which has seen increased foot traffic due to ongoing urban development.
