Kenya Airways has secured four major honours at the 2026 World Travel Awards, retaining its position as Africa’s leading airline for the third consecutive year.
The national carrier received the awards during the 33rd World Travel Awards Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony held in Zanzibar, Tanzania, on Friday, August 28, 2026.
Kenya Airways emerged as one of the biggest winners at the ceremony, collecting recognition across different aspects of its passenger experience.
The airline won Africa’s Leading Airline 2026, Africa’s Leading Airline – Economy Class, Africa’s Leading Airline Lounge and Africa’s Leading Inflight Magazine.
The awards recognise Kenya Airways’ overall service, economy-class offering, airport lounge and inflight publication.
The most prestigious of the four honours was the Africa’s Leading Airline 2026 award. The latest victory marks the third consecutive year that Kenya Airways has won the continental title.
KQ faced competition from some of Africa’s biggest carriers, including Ethiopian Airlines, EgyptAir, Royal Air Maroc and South African Airways.
The recognition reinforces Kenya Airways’ position as one of the continent’s leading aviation brands as African airlines compete for passengers across an increasingly connected international market.
Kenya Airways also took home the Africa’s Leading Airline – Economy Class 2026 award. The recognition highlights the carrier’s economy-class service and passenger experience.
Economy class remains the largest segment for most airlines, making the award an important recognition of the service delivered to the majority of KQ passengers. The airline has previously won the category, making the latest honour another addition to its record at the World Travel Awards.
KQ’s Pride Lounge at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) also received a major award. The lounge was named Africa’s Leading Airline Lounge 2026, placing the facility among the continent’s top airline lounges.
The recognition covers the premium airport experience provided to Kenya Airways passengers travelling through its Nairobi hub.
The Pride Lounge forms part of KQ’s premium passenger offering, giving eligible travellers a dedicated space to relax, work and prepare for their flights before departure.
The award also strengthens Nairobi’s position as an important aviation hub in East Africa.
Kenya Airways’ inflight publication, Msafiri Magazine, completed the airline’s four-award haul. The publication won Africa’s Leading Inflight Magazine 2026, continuing its strong performance at the World Travel Awards. The magazine provides passengers with travel and lifestyle content while showcasing destinations, experiences and stories from Kenya and other markets served by the airline.
Kenya Airways was not the only Kenyan winner at the Zanzibar ceremony.
Nairobi was named Africa’s Leading Business Travel Destination 2026, extending the city’s winning streak in the category to eight consecutive years. The recognition highlights Nairobi’s growing importance as a regional centre for business, conferences and international travel.
The city’s position as a major business hub complements Kenya Airways’ role as a key carrier connecting Nairobi to regional and international destinations.
The four awards come as Kenya Airways continues to strengthen its position in the international aviation market.
Through JKIA, KQ connects passengers from across Africa to destinations in Europe, Asia and other international markets.
The 2026 victories add to Kenya Airways’ history of recognition at the World Travel Awards.
Retaining the continental airline title for a third consecutive year represents a particularly significant achievement as KQ continues to compete against some of Africa’s largest and most established airlines.
The recognition comes as the carrier seeks to build on its position as a major African aviation hub.
