Kenya Denies Meddling in Sudan’s Internal Affairs

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Government of Kenya has categorically denied claims made by Sudan’s Sovereign Authority Forces (SAF) accusing Kenya of interfering in the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Kenya responded to the circular note by Sudan’s SAF, which has blamed Kenya for the prolonged crisis in the country.

While acknowledging the immense human suffering and widespread destruction caused by the two-year conflict, Kenya emphasized its role as a concerned regional neighbor.

The statement clarified that Kenya has been actively engaged in efforts to mediate peace through the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and other regional frameworks.

Kenya has hosted leaders from both warring sides in Sudan for dialogue in Nairobi, offering a neutral ground for talks but has firmly stated that the meetings were aimed at fostering peace and were not intended to endorse any outcomes or create an exile government, contrary to the allegations.

The Ministry urged the international community and all parties to the conflict to focus on finding a peaceful resolution, highlighting the global responsibility to protect human life and property.

It reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to peace and diplomacy, stressing that it would not remain passive in the face of such dire humanitarian crises.

Kenya has been accused of supporting Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in their ongoing conflict with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

Sudan’s war, which erupted on April 15, 2023, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions, with widespread reports of human rights abuses, including sexual violence and beheadings of civilians.

The government has consistently affirmed its neutrality in the war and has only acted solely as a center for mediation, encouraging peaceful dialogue among the parties involved.
