NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has forecast rainfall in parts of more than 20 counties between September 15 and 21, 2026.
In an update issued on Monday, September 14, the weather agency said rainfall is expected in parts of Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kisii, Kisumu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nandi, Nyamira, Siaya, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Wajir and West Pokot.
The forecast comes as the country prepares for the October-November-December (OND) rainfall season.
Met urges Kenyans to prepare
KMSA said the weekly forecast is intended to support early warning and early action, enabling communities and authorities to prepare for weather-related hazards.
The agency urged Kenyans to make use of available weather information and take appropriate measures to protect lives, property and livelihoods.
Sunny intervals expected in northern counties
While rainfall is forecast in several parts of the country, KMSA also expects sunny intervals in parts of Isiolo, Mandera, Marsabit, Samburu, Turkana and Wajir during the week.
The contrasting conditions highlight the continued variation in weather patterns across different parts of the country.
Temperatures to vary sharply
KMSA also expects significant differences in temperatures across Kenya during the forecast period.
Parts of Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit and Turkana are expected to record average daytime maximum temperatures above 30°C.
Residents in these areas are likely to experience notably warmer daytime conditions.
Cooler nights expected in highlands
Meanwhile, parts of the central and highland regions are expected to experience much cooler nights.
KMSA forecasts average minimum temperatures of below 10°C in parts of Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nakuru, Narok, Taita Taveta and Kajiado.
The weather agency’s forecast provides communities, farmers and other sectors with information to guide planning as Kenya heads into the OND rainfall season.
