Kenya Pipeline Appoints Two Ugandan Officials to Board After Ownership Restructuring

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) has announced changes to its Board of Directors with the appointment of five new non-executive directors, including two senior Ugandan government officials, following the company’s recent ownership restructuring.

In a public notice issued on Thursday, KPC said the appointments took effect on July 28, 2026, and are expected to strengthen the Board’s oversight role while supporting the company’s long-term strategic objectives.

“The Board of Kenya Pipeline Company hereby notifies stakeholders, the investing public, and all stakeholders that it has appointed Non-executive Directors of the Company with effect from 28 July, 2026,” the company said in the notice.

The new appointees are Dr Ramathan Ggoobi, Ms Irene Pauline Bateebe, Eng. Meshack Otieno Kidenda, Mr Samson Kipkemboi Burgei and CPA Ronald Kenyanya Nyamosi.

Dr Ggoobi, Uganda’s Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury in the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, joins the Board with extensive experience in macroeconomic policy, public finance management and development economics.

He previously served as Senior Presidential Advisor on the National Economy in Uganda and has held academic and policy leadership positions, including at Makerere University Business School.

Dr Ggoobi holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from Nelson Mandela University in South Africa and has previously served on the boards of the East African Development Bank, Uganda Energy Credit Capitalization Company and Uganda’s National Social Security Fund.

Also joining the Board is Ms Irene Pauline Bateebe, Uganda’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.

KPC said Bateebe brings more than two decades of experience in the energy, mining and petroleum sectors, with expertise in infrastructure financing, renewable energy, petroleum infrastructure and policy development.

She holds a Master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, a Master’s degree in Refinery Design and Operation from the University of Manchester, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Process Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam. She has also completed executive leadership training at the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford.

Veteran engineer Eng. Meshack Otieno Kidenda also joins the Board, bringing more than 40 years of experience in transport engineering and infrastructure development.

Kidenda previously served as Director General of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) between 2008 and 2014 and held several senior positions in the Roads Department after joining public service in 1979. He also served as Director of Industrial Training between 2000 and 2008 before retiring from public service in 2016.

He holds degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi and Traffic Engineering from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom and is a registered consulting engineer.

Mr Samson Kipkemboi Burgei has been appointed as Alternate Director to the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning.

Currently serving as Technical Advisor for Treasury Cash Management at the National Treasury, Burgei has more than 30 years of experience in public finance. He previously held senior positions at the Central Bank of Kenya in currency services, communications and custodial operations and has also served in leadership roles, including as Chair of Dorcas Aid Kenya and Kenya Plant Inspectorate Service.

CPA Ronald Kenyanya Nyamosi joins the Board as Alternate Director to the Managing Trustee and Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

Nyamosi currently serves as General Manager for Finance and Investments at NSSF Kenya and brings over two decades of experience in financial management, treasury operations, investment oversight and pension fund administration.

He holds a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from Kenyatta University and is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.

The appointments follow changes in KPC’s shareholding structure after Kenya sold a 65 per cent stake in the company through an Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the Nairobi Securities Exchange in 2026 while retaining a 35 per cent shareholding.

Uganda, through the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), acquired approximately 20 per cent of KPC, making it one of the company’s largest shareholders.

According to KPC, Uganda’s investment reflects the strategic importance of the pipeline to regional energy security, with about 65 per cent of the company’s transit volumes destined for Uganda, accounting for roughly 35 per cent of KPC’s revenue.
