NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced that payments to invigilators, supervisors and other personnel who administered the 2025 national examinations will begin on Thursday, August 6, following the release of funds by the Ministry of Education.
The announcement comes after weeks of concern from examination officials over delayed payments for their roles in administering the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).
KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere confirmed that the payments will start on Thursday, August 6, 2026, after the Ministry released the required funds.
Ministry Confirms Funds Have Been Released
Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa said the Ministry of Education had already transferred the funds to KNEC to facilitate the payment of examination personnel.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 4, Ololtuaa confirmed that the payment process would commence this week.
“I informed the Committee that the Ministry has already disbursed the funds to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), and payments to examination personnel will commence on Thursday, 6th August 2026,” the statement read.
Announcement Made Before Parliamentary Committee
The Principal Secretary made the announcement while appearing before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Education on Tuesday.
During the session, lawmakers sought clarification on pending payments owed to thousands of teachers and education officials who participated in the administration of the 2025 national examinations.
The delayed payments had emerged as one of the key issues raised before the committee.
Thousands of Examination Officials Expected to Benefit
The payments will cover personnel who participated in administering the 2025 KCSE and KJSEA examinations, including:
- Invigilators
- Supervisors
- Centre managers
- Other examination support personnel
The move is expected to address concerns raised by examination officials who had been awaiting compensation following the conclusion of the national examination exercise.
