KPA MD Hospitalised After Accident in Taita Taveta, Daughter Dies

NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has confirmed that its Chief Executive Officer, Capt. William Ruto, was involved in a tragic road accident on the evening of April 3 while travelling with his family.

In a staff notice dated April 4, KPA revealed that the accident resulted in the death of Capt Ruto’s daughter.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that our Chief Executive Officer, Capt. William K. Ruto, was involved in a tragic road accident yesterday evening while traveling with his family,” the notice read in part.

The authority noted that while the CEO and other members of his family survived the crash, they are currently in stable condition and receiving close medical supervision.

“Regrettably, his daughter did not survive the accident. We extend our thoughts and deepest condolences to Capt. Ruto and his family during this time of immense grief,” the statement added.

KPA further confirmed that it is working closely with relevant authorities as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The organization also urged the public and the media to respect the family’s privacy as they mourn their loss.

In the statement, the authority expressed gratitude to Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, the Governor of Mombasa County, and Andrew Mwadime, Governor of Taita-Taveta County, for their swift assistance and support following the accident.

KPA also thanked its staff, partners, stakeholders, and members of the public for their continued support, patience, and cooperation during the difficult period.

The notice was issued by the authority’s Corporate Communication Division.
