KPLC: Nairobi Among Areas to be Affected by Planned Power Interruptions This Friday

NAIROBI, Kenya – Parts of Nairobi and several other counties will experience power outages on Friday, May 23, as Kenya Power conducts planned maintenance on its electricity network.

In a notice issued Thursday evening, the utility firm said the scheduled interruptions will affect key locations across six regions, including the capital, Central Rift, North Rift, South Nyanza, Mt. Kenya, and Coast.

In Nairobi, the outage is set to hit parts of Lavington, including Isaac Gathanju Road, sections of James Gichuru Road, Lavington Curve, Jeffrey Club, and the Tiles & Carpet Centre, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Kenya Power said the disruptions are necessary to facilitate ongoing network upgrades aimed at improving service reliability.

Here is a breakdown of the affected areas:

🔌 Central Rift (Nakuru County)

  • Areas: Parts of Rongai Town including Kandutura, Kware, Kapwen, and BP Flora
  • Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

🔌 North Rift (Uasin Gishu County)

  • Cheptiret & Bayete: Including Kapkoiga, Kerita, Kiptanui Farm and Rurigi
  • Moiben & Kabomoi: Including Chebororwa Girls, Kapsigilai, and Meibeki
  • Time: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

🔌 South Nyanza (Homa Bay County)

  • Areas: Gendia, Kosele, Karabok and markets like Ringa, Kadongo, and Mawego Polytechnic
  • Time: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

🔌 Mt. Kenya (Nyeri County)

  • Areas: Kigogoini, Gacuiro, Kamakia and nearby schools including Kiriti Secondary
  • Time: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

🔌 Coast Region (Taita Taveta County)

  • Areas: Loitoktok and Mwatate including Sarova and Salt Lick lodges, Bura and Kamtonga
  • Time: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Kenya Power has urged customers in the affected regions to plan accordingly and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused.

The company often schedules such interruptions during daylight hours to allow for safer and faster maintenance operations.

Power is expected to be restored immediately after the work is completed.
