KRA to Temporarily Suspend iTax Services for System Maintenance This Weekend

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a temporary suspension of its iTax platform to allow for scheduled system maintenance over the weekend.

In a notice issued on Friday evening, the tax agency said the exercise will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, and end at 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025 — a four-hour window during which all iTax services will be unavailable.

“Please be advised that there will be a scheduled maintenance of iTax from Saturday, 25th October 2025, 8:00 PM to Sunday, 26th October 2025, 12:00 AM,” KRA said in a statement.

During the maintenance period, taxpayers will not be able to file returns, generate payment slips, update profiles, or apply for tax compliance certificates.

KRA apologised for the temporary disruption, saying the exercise is part of its ongoing efforts to ensure the reliability and efficiency of its digital infrastructure.

“The scheduled maintenance is necessary to keep the system up to date and to enhance service delivery to taxpayers,” the authority said.

Taxpayers have been advised to complete any urgent transactions before 8:00 p.m. on Saturday to avoid interruptions.

Launched in 2014, the iTax platform has become the backbone of KRA’s digital tax administration system, serving millions of individuals and businesses every month.

It provides a one-stop online interface for tax registration, filing, payment, and compliance monitoring across multiple tax categories, including Income Tax, VAT, PAYE, Excise Duty, and Withholding Tax.

The digital platform integrates directly with the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and commercial banks, allowing seamless remittance of taxes.

KRA said the system upgrade aligns with its broader digital transformation agenda, aimed at modernising revenue collection, improving transparency, and reducing manual processes in tax administration.

The authority has over the years relied on iTax to drive automation, enhance compliance, and boost domestic revenue mobilisation for national development.
