NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened the inter-institutional transfer window for students placed in the 2025/2026 academic year, offering them a chance to change their courses or institutions.
In a circular released to university vice chancellors, college principals, and TVET directors, KUCCPS announced that the transfer window will run from July 14 to August 24, 2025.
The entire process will be conducted online through the official KUCCPS portal.
“As per the practice, KUCCPS provides an opportunity to students who may wish to change their programmes and institutions through the online application system, following the laid-down procedures within the set timelines,” the circular read.
How the Transfer Process Works
KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Wahome outlined a multi-step process for students seeking transfers:
- Students initiate the request via the KUCCPS portal.
- The receiving institution must endorse the application.
- The releasing institution processes the student’s exit.
- KUCCPS then approves the transfer and generates a formal transfer letter.
- The student must download the approved letter and present it to the new institution for admission and joining instructions.
Both the releasing and receiving institutions will also receive a transfer report through their respective institutional portals.
Cut-Off Points and Course Requirements Still Apply
Wahome cautioned that transfer requests — especially those involving a change in programme or faculty — must still meet the minimum programme cut-off points and subject requirements, particularly for degree courses.
“It is essential that the stipulated academic thresholds are observed to ensure academic standards are maintained,” she stated.
Post-Placement Adjustments Underway
The opening of the transfer portal follows the official release of the 2025/2026 placement results on July 1, giving students the opportunity to revise their choices in line with career goals, academic interests, or logistical needs.
Students and parents are advised to act within the stipulated timelines to avoid missing out on transfer opportunities.
