MARSABIT, Kenya – Two people — a father and his son — were killed on Wednesday afternoon after a grenade exploded inside their home in Karare area, Saku Constituency, Marsabit County.
According to police, the victims were attempting to dismantle the explosive device when it went off, killing them instantly and destroying part of their house.
Marsabit County Police Commander Leonard Kimaiyo said officers are working with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to establish the origin of the grenade. Preliminary reports indicate the pair may have collected it from a nearby field.
“The public should never tamper with suspicious objects resembling explosives. They should alert police or security agencies immediately,” Kimaiyo warned.
Investigators were still analysing the scene on Wednesday evening, while the bodies were moved to the mortuary for autopsy and further procedures.
Security officials said similar explosives have been found in parts of Marsabit County, some believed to originate from training exercises by government agencies.
