MP Kaguchia Leaves Kamukunji Police Station for Milimani Law Courts

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia has left Kamukunji Police Station after spending the night in custody and is being escorted to the Milimani Law Courts, where he is expected to appear before a magistrate.

The legislator confirmed his departure on Tuesday morning through a brief social media post, stating: “Finally! Left Kamukunji Police Station headed to Milimani Law Court.”

His court appearance follows his arrest on Monday after he exited the Royal Media Services premises in Nairobi, where he had remained overnight following claims that security officers were waiting to arrest him after remarks he allegedly made during a television interview and at a political rally.

Kaguchia was initially taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters for questioning before later being transferred to Kamukunji Police Station.

His lawyers had earlier alleged they were denied access to the MP for several hours after his arrest and said authorities had not informed them of his whereabouts or the specific reasons for his detention. They also claimed his mobile phone had been confiscated, preventing him from communicating with his family and legal team.

By Tuesday morning, police had not publicly disclosed the charges Kaguchia is expected to face or issued a detailed statement outlining the offences under investigation.

The arrest has sparked political reactions, with opposition leaders questioning the circumstances surrounding the operation while maintaining that the law should be applied fairly and consistently to all leaders accused of making inflammatory remarks.
