Nairobi Estates To Be Hit By Water Supply Interruptions

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya –Nairobi residents in several estates are set to experience a 24-hour water supply disruption starting Wednesday, May 7, 2025, due to ongoing repair works at the Kabete pumping station.

According to a statement from Eng. Nahason Muguna, the Managing Director of Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company, the interruption is a result of the damage caused by a malfunction at the Kabete Water Treatment Works on May 4, 2025.

The failure of a butterfly pump led to water spilling over onto the pump motors and their electrical control panels, rendering them inoperable.

The affected motors play a crucial role in increasing water pressure and ensuring the flow towards the Dagoretti and Uthiru reservoirs.

The technical team worked throughout May 6 to repair the damaged pipeline and is currently completing the motor repairs.

Water supply to the affected areas is expected to resume by 9:00 pm on May 7, 2025.

The following estates will be impacted by the water interruption:

  • Estates along Naivasha Road
  • Kawangware
  • Gatina
  • Kabiro
  • Riruta Satellite
  • Dagoretti Corner
  • Ngando
  • Kangemi
  • Mountain View
  • Karen
  • Ongata Rongai

Nairobi Water has apologized for the inconvenience caused and assured residents that the repair works are on track.

The company also urged customers in these areas to plan accordingly and use water sparingly during the disruption.

This interruption comes as Nairobi continues to face challenges in maintaining a consistent water supply due to aging infrastructure and increasing demand.

However, the timely repairs and restoration are expected to provide temporary relief as the utility company strives to prevent future disruptions.
