NAIROBI,Kenya– Kenya has secured an economic win as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced plans to open its first African office in Nairobi.
President William Ruto, who is currently on an official trip to Spain, made the announcement following a meeting with EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso on the sidelines of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville.
“We value our growing partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and welcome the bank’s decision to establish an African office in Nairobi,” Ruto said.
“This is a strategic move that will enhance support for micro, small and medium enterprises, and promote public-private partnerships as key drivers of economic growth.”
The upcoming Nairobi office is expected to deepen Kenya’s access to international financing, particularly in the areas of climate change, green investments, and infrastructure development.
Ruto noted that the meeting also yielded agreements on a wide range of future collaborations, including climate financing initiatives and the organization of a major investor conference in Nairobi later this year.
According to the head of state, the move marks a significant step in Nairobi’s positioning as a regional financial hub and aligns with the country’s broader agenda of strengthening ties with global institutions to accelerate development goals.
