NAIROBI, Kenya – A new initiative, Startup 360 Connect, has launched to propel East African startups onto the global stage, offering direct access to UK investors, co-founders, and market expansion opportunities—without requiring relocation.
The program, backed by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) through the UK Kenya Tech Hub, in partnership with Qhala and the Jasiri Network, aims to bridge the gap between Africa’s fast-growing innovation sector and the UK’s deep capital and talent pools.
Selected startups will be matched with London-based angels, venture capitalists, and diaspora-led funds, opening doors to millions in Seed and Series A funding, as well as strategic partnerships.
According to Dr. Shikoh Gitau, CEO of Qhala, the program is designed to foster high-integrity, high-impact connections.
“Startup 360 Connect is about creating growth opportunities that don’t require founders to relocate. We’re facilitating access to funding, mentorship, and market expansion—helping startups scale while staying rooted in their home countries.”
The initiative also offers legal and intellectual property (IP) support, mentorship from UK-based entrepreneurs, and visibility at top global tech events, including London Tech Week and Africa Tech Summit.
Enos Weswa, Country Director of the UK Kenya Tech Hub, emphasized the program’s strategic role in expanding market reach:
“Our focus goes beyond funding. We’re offering access to high-growth markets and top-tier talent, helping startups scale sustainably. This program provides a clear runway to global markets.”
Selected startups will gain:
- Investor matchmaking with UK angels, family offices, and venture capital firms.
- Access to seed-stage funding ranging from £250,000 to £5 million.
- Series A investment opportunities of £5 million to £15 million.
- 0% capital gains tax on exits within three years in the UK.
- Market expansion support into the UK and Europe.
- Legal and regulatory assistance through Commonwealth frameworks.
The program is calling for applications from high-growth startups in Fintech, Agritech, Climatetech, Cybersecurity, Healthtech, and other high-demand sectors.
Special consideration will be given to startups led by women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
Applications close on March 20, 2025, with the three-month program running from March to June.
