ODM Postpones Grassroots Elections in Parts of Homa Bay

Date:

HOMA BAY, Kenya – The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has postponed grassroots elections in parts of Homa Bay County, citing scheduling adjustments.

In a notice dated August 18, the party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) said polls in East Kamagak Ward and Kasipul Constituency—initially set for August 20 and 21—will not take place as planned.

“Fresh dates shall be duly communicated in due course. Members in the affected electoral areas are advised to remain patient and await the official communication on the rescheduled timelines,” said NECC chairperson Emily Awita.

The postponement comes just a day after the party announced that countywide delegates’ elections will be held on Monday, August 25, at designated polling centers nationwide.

However, ODM clarified that Migori, Nairobi, Homa Bay, and Kisumu counties will not participate in the exercise.

The ongoing grassroots elections, which began in April following the party’s November 2024 polling unit elections, are aimed at filling positions across four committees: mainstream, women’s league, youth league, and disability league.

A total of 77 officials have so far been elected at sub-branch and branch levels.

The county delegates’ elections are expected to shape ODM’s internal leadership structure ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
