P1 and ECDE Teachers Get Chance to Upgrade to Diploma as KUCCPS Opens Applications

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Teachers holding P1 or Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) certificates now have an opportunity to upgrade their qualifications to diploma level, following the opening of applications for the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE).

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced that eligible teachers can now apply for the August 2025 intake.

The upgrade programme aims to enhance teaching competencies and align qualifications with modern curriculum requirements.

“Here’s a chance to upgrade your qualification to Diploma level. Apply for placement to Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) through KUCCPS,” the agency said in a public notice.

Applicants must possess either a P1 certificate or an ECDE qualification to be considered.

The programme will begin later this month, and interested candidates are encouraged to apply promptly through the dedicated portal: teachersupgrade.kuccps.ac.ke.

TVET Application Window Also Open

The DPTE application window comes just weeks after KUCCPS reopened its placement portal for the September 2025 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) intake.

That opportunity targets KCSE certificate holders from as far back as the year 2000 to 2024.

Applicants may choose from Artisan (Level 4), Craft Certificate (Level 5), or Diploma (Level 6) courses depending on their KCSE results.

  • Artisan Certificate: Minimum grade of E
  • Craft Certificate: Minimum grade of D
  • Diploma Courses: Minimum grade of C- (minus)

In a bid to boost access to training opportunities, KUCCPS waived all application fees for the current TVET intake.

Applications can be submitted via the KUCCPS Students’ Portal at students.kuccps.net, with detailed guidelines available on the official KUCCPS website: www.kuccps.ac.ke.

KUCCPS, a state corporation under the Universities Act No. 42 of 2012, is tasked with coordinating the placement of government-sponsored students into universities and colleges across Kenya.
