NAKURU, Kenya — Police in Nakuru have arrested three persons of interest following a high-speed pursuit triggered by residents’ reports of an armed gang allegedly terrorising estates in the city.
Officers from Bondeni Police Station in Nakuru East Sub-County arrested the three on Sunday, September 20, after responding to distress calls from residents in Manyani and Kivumbini estates.
The National Police Service (NPS) said residents had reported seeing three armed men riding a motorcycle and allegedly robbing members of the public.
Police Launch High-Speed Pursuit
Officers responded to the alerts and pursued the suspects through the estates before intercepting them in Manyani.
“After a long chase through the area, officers successfully intercepted and apprehended all three suspects within Manyani Estate,” the NPS said in a statement posted on X on Monday, September 21.
Police said they recovered weapons and the motorcycle allegedly used in the commission of the crimes during the operation.
The three persons of interest were taken to Bondeni Police Station and placed in custody pending further processing and arraignment in court.
Residents Alert Police
The NPS credited residents with helping officers respond quickly to the alleged robberies.
Police said the prompt distress calls enabled officers to mobilise and pursue the suspects before they could leave the area.
The service urged members of the public to continue reporting suspected criminal activity to the nearest police station.
Police Step Up Crackdown
The arrests come amid continued police operations targeting people suspected of involvement in criminal activities across the country.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has also been pursuing suspects linked to incidents of violence reported in different parts of the country.
On September 14, the DCI announced the arrest of a person of interest in connection with violence and destruction reported during a UDA delegates’ meeting at Nembure Grounds in Embu County on September 12.
The suspect was arrested in Kithimu, Embu town, during an operation involving detectives from the DCI Headquarters Operations Support Team and the Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Branch.
The DCI said investigations were continuing to identify and apprehend other people suspected of participating in the violence.
Police Rely on Public Information
The Nakuru arrests highlight the role of public reporting in enabling police to respond to suspected criminal activity.
The NPS has repeatedly urged residents to provide timely information on suspicious activities while assuring members of the public that reports can help officers intervene before incidents escalate.
The three Nakuru suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, with the case expected to proceed through the courts.
