NAIROBI, Kenya— Police have arrested two suspects and seized 220 litres of illicit chang’aa during a targeted operation in Kibra, Nairobi County, as authorities intensify the crackdown on the production and distribution of illegal alcohol.

The National Police Service (NPS) said officers carried out the operation in the Kianda 42 area within Kilimani Sub-County, where they raided premises suspected of engaging in the illicit alcohol trade.

During the operation, officers arrested two male suspects and confiscated 220 litres of chang’aa believed to have been intended for distribution.

“The officers conducted a targeted raid within the Kianda 42 area of Kibra, arresting two male suspects and confiscating 220 litres of Chang’aa,” the NPS said in a statement.

The suspects were taken into police custody and are awaiting processing before being arraigned in court.

Police also secured the seized alcohol as exhibits to support ongoing investigations and prosecution.

The latest operation forms part of the National Police Service’s continued campaign against the manufacture, sale and consumption of illicit brews, which authorities say pose serious public health and security risks.

“This operation underscores the ongoing commitment of the National Police Service to eradicate the production, distribution and consumption of illicit brews,” the statement added.

Investigations are ongoing.
