GARISSA, Kenya — Police have recovered 105 suspected stolen mobile phones, two laptops and assorted phone accessories during an operation targeting the illicit trade in electronic devices in Madogo Township, Garissa County.
The National Police Service (NPS) said the operation was conducted along Mums Street following intelligence linking a business premises to the handling of suspected stolen property.
According to the NPS, officers raided the establishment and recovered the electronic devices before arresting two suspects.
“The operation was mounted following information linking the establishment to the handling of suspected stolen property. Upon raiding the premises, officers recovered the electronic devices and arrested two suspects,” the service said in a statement.
The two suspects have been placed in police custody pending their arraignment in court.
Investigators have since launched efforts to trace owners of the recovered devices, with police urging complainants whose phones were stolen to cooperate with investigators as the identification process continues.
The operation also yielded an assortment of mobile phone accessories alongside the recovered mobile phones and laptops.
Police said the latest recovery demonstrates the National Police Service’s continued crackdown on criminal networks involved in handling stolen property and trafficking illicit electronic devices.
“The operation underscores the sustained efforts of the National Police Service to combat the handling of stolen property and all forms of criminality,” the statement added.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the source of the recovered electronics and determine whether additional suspects are linked to the alleged illegal trade.
