NAIROBI, Kenya – The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced 1,000 paid internship opportunities under the Ministry of Education’s Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) Cohort 5.
The internships are being offered through the State Department for Basic Education and target recent graduates seeking practical experience in information and communication technology (ICT) and digital education.
According to a notice published in the Tuesday, September 15, 2026 edition of MyGov, successful applicants will be deployed to schools at the sub-county level.
The interns will support digital learning, virtual learning, and other technology-related education platforms while gaining workplace experience.
Who is eligible to apply?
The programme targets graduates who completed their studies in 2022 or later and hold relevant qualifications from recognised institutions.
Applicants must have one of the following:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Education specialising in Information Communication Technology;
- A Bachelor’s degree in ICT;
- A Diploma in ICT; or
- A Diploma in ICT Integration in Education.
The PSC also requires applicants to have knowledge and skills in areas including networking and infrastructure, applications development, information security and project management.
Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to integrate ICT into education, particularly in e-learning and content development.
Skills in research and innovation that can support the Digital Literacy Programme are also required.
Interns to be deployed across sub-counties
Successful candidates must be willing to work full-time and accept deployment to any Sub-County Education Office.
The PSC said applicants who have previously benefited from a similar programme will not be eligible.
The deployment is intended to place interns directly in schools, where they will provide practical support to teachers and education officials implementing digital learning.
What will the 1,000 interns do?
The interns will have a hands-on role in supporting digital learning in schools.
Their responsibilities will include supporting e-learning and content development in line with school schemes of work and helping train primary school teachers to use digital learning devices.
They will also support implementation of the Digital Literacy Programme and develop innovations aimed at improving the use of digital learning in schools.
Other duties will include promoting the safe, secure and ethical use of technology in education and helping teachers integrate ICT into teaching, learning and assessment.
The interns will also assist school staff in developing relevant policies and procedures and provide first-line support and maintenance for ICT services.
Internship will run for 12 months
The internship will run for 12 months and will not be renewable.
Unlike unpaid work-experience placements, the advertised positions come with a government-funded stipend.
According to the PSC, interns will receive a stipend from the State Department for Basic Education at a rate determined by the Government.
Those who successfully complete the programme will also receive a certificate from the State Department for Basic Education.

Interested and qualified applicants are required to submit their applications online through the Public Service Commission recruitment portal.
The application deadline is October 5, 2026.
First-time users of the PSC recruitment system must register before submitting an application.
Applicants are required to provide complete information on their personal details, academic and professional qualifications and other relevant information requested by the Commission.
The PSC warned that incomplete applications will not be considered.
The Commission also cautioned applicants against fraudsters, stressing that its recruitment services are free of charge.
Candidates have been advised not to pay anyone promising shortlisting, employment or appointment.
