Safaricom Revamps Business Credit Solutions to Support MSMEs in Kenya

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya– Safaricom has announced an overhaul of its business credit solutions aimed at improving access to finance for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the country.

The telco is partnering with financial institutions to offer enhanced credit facilities tailored to the needs of Kenyan businesses, in what it says is anchored on driving financial inclusion.

The revamped offerings include Fuliza Biashara, Taasi Till, and Taasi Pochi, providing businesses with flexible and convenient credit options.

These facilities are accessible via the M-PESA Business App or USSD codes *234# and 3348#, offering users a seamless experience in securing and managing credit.

“We recognize the pivotal role businesses play in Kenya’s economy and in empowering communities. By leveraging technology, our credit solutions like Taasi aim to ease access to financing for MSMEs, enabling them to grow and thrive,” said its CEO Peter Ndegwa.

Taasi Till, a term loan solution, offers short-term credit ranging between Sh1,500 and Sh250,000, based on business eligibility.

Meanwhile, Fuliza Biashara enables Lipa na M-PESA merchants to draw multiple overdrafts, starting from Sh1,000 up to Sh400,000.

The overdraft repayment is now automatically deducted when there is an inflow on the merchant’s till, ensuring uninterrupted business operations.

For entrepreneurs using Pochi la Biashara, the newly launched Taasi Pochi offers credit ranging from Sh1,000 to Sh250,000, with funds instantly available in the Pochi wallet.

Eligible merchants must have maintained active tills or Pochi wallets for more than six months to qualify.

Repayment periods for all the credit solutions range between 14 and 30 days, providing businesses with adequate time to manage their cash flow while repaying the loans.

Safaricom emphasized that the initiative is part of its broader mission to foster a financially resilient and inclusive economy by unlocking affordable credit for entrepreneurs, particularly those in the informal sector.
