Vision 2030 Successor Blueprint to Be Co-Created With University Students

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat will next week host a youth-focused policy dialogue with economics students from Strathmore University and Kenyatta University as part of efforts to shape the country’s development agenda beyond 2030.

The engagement, dubbed a Ruwaza Session, will take place on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the Ruwaza Centre in Nairobi.

It brings together 30 student leaders from both institutions under the Strathmore Economics Students Society and the Kenyatta University Economics Students Association (KUESA).

The session marks a continued shift by the Secretariat toward more participatory approaches in national planning, with young economists recognized as central to driving future economic transformation.

“Kenya’s youth represent the future of our economy and the driving force behind innovation and implementation. Their input is critical in shaping a development framework that truly reflects their aspirations,” said a spokesperson from the Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat.

The half-day forum will include presentations on milestones achieved under the Vision 2030 economic blueprint, interactive discussions on national priorities after 2030, and an open plenary session to collect perspectives from students.

The feedback will be compiled into a youth-led report expected to feed into the successor framework currently under development.

Officials from the Economic and Macro Directorate as well as the Communications and Strategy Directorate will attend the engagement, which will also be livestreamed on the Secretariat’s digital platforms to widen public participation.

By collaborating with academic institutions, the Secretariat aims to deepen civic involvement among young people and build a broader sense of ownership in Kenya’s development trajectory.

The Vision 2030 plan, launched in 2008, outlines Kenya’s ambition to become a globally competitive and industrialising middle-income economy.

The development of its successor blueprint is now underway as the country approaches the end of the 2030 planning horizon.
