NAIROBI, Kenya- Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has voiced strong support for the renewed camaraderie between President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, calling it a critical step toward national cohesion.
Speaking during a tree-planting event in Eldama Ravine organized by KenGen, Wandayi emphasized the importance of fostering alliances and collaborations for Kenya’s prosperity.
Wandayi reaffirmed his allegiance to the broad-based government, stating that ODM’s inclusion in Ruto’s administration was strategic in advancing national interests, including fostering unity among Kenyans.
“Even the Bible says there is a time for everything. I am currently in the government to support it and work for the betterment of the people,” he remarked.
The CS dismissed concerns about ODM leaders aligning with the government, stressing that every Kenyan, including former President Kenyatta, had the right to support national development.
He also noted that President Ruto was at liberty to build alliances that promote the country’s prosperity.
Notably, Wandayi joined other ODM leaders in the Kenya Kwanza Cabinet, including John Mbadi, now Treasury CS, and Hassan Joho, serving as the Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy.
During the event, Wandayi praised KenGen for its proactive role in the government’s ambitious goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032, a cornerstone initiative to combat global warming.
“Planting trees is more than an environmental activity; it’s about securing the future for our country and the world,” he said.
The Ministry of Energy and its affiliated agencies, he added, had completed tree-planting on all allocated sites, demonstrating their dedication to Kenya’s climate agenda.
