NAIROBI, Kenya – Several parts of the country will experience power outages on Thursday, May 29, 2025, as the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) carries out scheduled maintenance. Affected counties span from Nairobi and Central Rift to Nyanza and the Coast, with outage durations ranging between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Here’s a breakdown of areas to brace for the blackout:
Nairobi and Surrounding Suburbs
If you’re around Kileleshwa, better charge up early. Power will go off from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting parts of Mandera Road, Durham Road, Gichugu Road, Gem Lane, Kandara Road, Kajanta Road, Oleka Juado Road, and nearby residences.
In Bogani East, brace for the same. Areas around CUEA, Bogani East Road, Qwetu and Qejani Hostels, and Corrat Africa will also be in the dark between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Central Rift and Mt. Kenya Regions
Power disruptions will also sweep through parts of Nakuru County like Elementaita, Kongasis, Oljorai, and their neighbors. Residents should expect an outage from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In Uasin Gishu, areas such as Chemusian, Olare, Kaplanga, and Cheplanga will experience interruptions from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Nandi County’s Old Chepterwai and Kipngoror are also on the list, with outages expected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Further east in Mt. Kenya, Nyeri’s Mumbi Estate, Ciaraini, Temple Road, Consolata College, and Kimathi Estate will go without power from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The same goes for Maranjau and Kambiti, where businesses like Sunmangoe Processors, Kengen Mirira Dam, and Gateway Resort will be affected. Schools such as Kambiti Primary and Secondary are also listed.
In Embu County, areas including Kyeni Hospital, Kiaragana Primary, Kathunguri Market, and Mufu Market will face a full-day blackout.
Nyanza, Coast, and North Eastern Kenya
In Kisii County, parts of Ogembo and Kenyenya—including Riokindo, Etono, Omoringamu, and Nyakeyo Ibencho—should prepare for a power cut from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Kwale County’s Samburu Town, Kinagoni, Silaloni, and Mwaki Jembe will also experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
And over in Kiambu, the North Eastern Region’s Tinganga and Ngemwa areas—including Sasini Coffee Factory, Kagongo, and Tinganga Secondary School—will also go dark between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
