NAIROBI, Kenya — Former International Criminal Court (ICC) Judge Joyce Aluoch has said she is finding fulfillment in her new role as a mediator, after more than four decades of delivering judgments in courtrooms across the world.
Speaking to Citizen TV, Aluoch reflected on her transition from judge to peacemaker, saying she is now focused on listening and guiding parties toward amicable resolutions rather than issuing rulings.
“After making court orders for 44 years, I am now happy to listen and offer guidance as a mediator to help resolve disputes,” she said.
Justice Aluoch, who served as a judge of the ICC and previously as a Court of Appeal judge in Kenya, has been actively promoting alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as a means of easing case backlogs and fostering restorative justice.
Her remarks underscore a growing judicial shift toward mediation and reconciliation as key tools in Kenya’s evolving justice system.
