Government Urges Citizens in Lebanon to Register for Evacuation Amid Rising Tensions

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenyan government has called on its citizens residing in Lebanon to urgently register for evacuation as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate.

The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs issued the appeal in a press release, expressing concern that many Kenyans in Lebanon remain unregistered, risking delays in their evacuation amid the worsening situation.

“To ensure the safety and timely evacuation of all our citizens, we urge all Kenyans in Lebanon to immediately register with us. Only registered Kenyans will be eligible for evacuation,” the Ministry’s statement emphasized.

With the situation in Lebanon becoming increasingly volatile, the Ministry stressed the importance of meeting the evacuation deadline, set for October 12, 2024.

Kenyans who do not complete their registration before this date may face challenges in securing a safe return.

The government assured its commitment to prioritizing the safety of all Kenyans affected by the unfolding crisis, urging citizens to act promptly.

“We continue to prioritize the safety of all Kenyan nationals currently residing in Lebanon amidst the escalating situation,” the statement added.

So far, two groups of Kenyans have been successfully evacuated from Lebanon, with the government pledging ongoing efforts in collaboration with international partners and local authorities to ensure secure evacuation routes.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs first launched an urgent evacuation plan on August 6, 2024, in response to the deteriorating security environment in the region.

It has since provided emergency hotline numbers for Kenyans in Lebanon, and those with family members in the country are urged to call +254114757002 for coordination and further instructions.

The government continues to advise Kenyans in Lebanon to register for evacuation immediately and move to designated safe zones if possible, as efforts to bring them home safely intensify.
