NAIROBI, Kenya- In a landmark move, the Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority (KHPOA) has launched its strategic plan for 2023-2027.
This ambitious roadmap aims to ensure healthcare practitioners uphold the highest standards, enhancing the quality and accessibility of health services across the nation.
A Commitment to Excellence in Healthcare
Speaking during the launch of the event, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muriuki, emphasized the significance of this strategic plan.
“This first strategic plan for 2023-2027 marks a milestone that underscores our unwavering commitment to quality care, standards, affordability, and availability across the country,” Muriuki stated.
The plan focuses on six key areas: health professional regulation, the right to health, health service delivery, strategic information, research and innovation, and institutional capacity development.
Muriuki highlighted KHPOA’s critical role in maintaining the integrity and competence of healthcare practitioners, ultimately enhancing the safety and quality of healthcare services nationwide.
“Oversight is crucial as it regularly informs us about where health services are faltering, enabling better planning and direction from different regulatory bodies,” she noted.
Harmonizing Objectives for Better Health Outcomes
The strategic plan aligns with several global, continental, regional, and national health goals.
Muriuki reiterated the government’s reliance on KHPOA for effective and responsive oversight in regulating health and professional practice.
“This plan embodies a collective commitment to ensuring the highest standards and excellence in healthcare delivery across the country,” she said.
Essential to this commitment are the availability of the right equipment, qualified human resources, proper infrastructure, and adherence to professional standards.
Innovation is also a cornerstone of the plan, aiming to meet health needs and empower communities while upholding principles of integrity and accountability.
The extensive collaboration and consultation with stakeholders underscore the Authority’s dedication to addressing current health challenges and positioning itself for future advancements.
Transforming Kenya’s Healthcare Sector
KHPOA CEO Dr. Jackson Kioko described the strategic plan as a critical operational tool that signifies the Authority’s commitment to transforming the healthcare landscape in Kenya.
“We are committed to efficiency and responsiveness in our oversight function to regulate the security of health services and professionals,” Kioko emphasized.
