NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya Airways passengers will now be able to access cheaper global connectivity after the carrier, in partnership with telecoms provider RoamBuddy, introduced a roaming service dubbed KQSafari Data.
The new product gives travelers access to more than 2,250 roaming plans in over 180 countries, with options spanning country-specific, regional, and global packages.
KQ says the service will significantly reduce data costs compared to traditional roaming.
“Our guests deserve more than just a flight. They deserve a connected journey that is seamless, affordable, and stress-free,” said Kenya Airways Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Julius Thairu, during the launch.
The product was initially incubated through the airline’s Fahari Innovation Hub under its Open Innovation Challenge before being scaled into a market-ready service.
“This partnership with Kenya Airways demonstrates the power of collaboration in delivering meaningful solutions for travelers,” added RoamBuddy CEO, Mandeep Birdi.
Connectivity as a Competitive Edge
The introduction of KQSafari Data comes at a time when global airlines are increasingly turning to ancillary services such as inflight Wi-Fi, subscription models, and travel apps to enhance customer experience and generate new revenue streams.
Kenya Airways, which has grappled with financial strain in recent years, is under pressure to diversify its income and strengthen its position in the East African aviation market.
With travel demand recovering post-pandemic, connectivity has become a key differentiator for carriers seeking to win and retain passengers.
By tapping its Fahari Innovation Hub, KQ is positioning itself not only as a transport provider but also as a digital solutions player delivering value to travelers across Africa and beyond.
