NAIROBI — The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has warned school principals against delaying the registration of candidates for the 2026 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).
In a notice issued Tuesday, March 3, the council confirmed that registration began on Monday, March 2, and urged schools to complete the process well before the March 31 deadline.
Officials cautioned against last-minute submissions, emphasizing that timely registration ensures accurate candidate details and smooth examination administration.
“The registration of candidates for the 2026 KJSEA started yesterday, 2nd March. As the Head of Institution or Principal, have you registered your candidates? Do not wait for the last-minute rush and register your candidates today,” the notice read.
KNEC instructed heads of institutions to register candidates for both KPSEA and KJSEA via the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal at https://cba.knec.ac.ke, using the centre code as both username and password.
Schools must update credentials, verify a one-time SMS code, and then access the “Authorized Applications” dashboard to begin registration.
The registration timelines are as follows:
- KPSEA: February 16 – March 16, 2026
- KJSEA: March 2 – March 31, 2026
- KCSE: February 16 – March 31, 2026
The advisory comes shortly after the Ministry of Education acknowledged delays in paying examiners who managed the 2025 national assessments, including KPSEA, KJSEA, and KCSE.
While results were released on schedule, many contracted professionals, supervisors, invigilators, security personnel, and examiners are yet to receive their dues.
In a February 20 statement, the Ministry recognized the crucial role of exam officers in maintaining the integrity and timely delivery of national examinations and pledged to work with the National Treasury to release funds promptly.
