The agency is calling on tow truck owners, motor vehicle dealers (both new and second-hand), and vehicle repairers to participate in the Multi-Agency Licence Revalidation Exercise, which will run until November 22.
The NTSA, through a notice issued on Thursday, stressed the importance of adhering to Sections 23(1) and 24 of the Traffic Act Cap 403, which governs the licensing and regulation of motor vehicle and motorcycle dealers in Kenya.
Motor vehicle operators are required to submit an online licence revalidation form, which is available on the NTSA website.
The deadline for submission is set for Wednesday, November 6, 2024, after which a Multi-Agency team will conduct on-site inspections to verify the accuracy of the submitted information.
“It is crucial that all provided details are correct to avoid any disruptions during the inspection process,” the NTSA emphasized in the notice.
The initiative is part of NTSA’s broader efforts to enhance road safety across the country. The revalidation exercise comes amid rising concerns about road safety, with the NTSA estimating that approximately 3,000 people lose their lives annually in road accidents.
The most dangerous times for these incidents include weekends, public holidays, and between the hours of 5 PM and 8 AM, when a combination of factors such as reduced visibility, driver fatigue, and reckless driving significantly increase the risk of accidents.
Drink-driving and driver negligence are among the leading causes of the alarming rate of road fatalities in Kenya.
For more information on the licence revalidation process, operators are encouraged to visit the NTSA offices or Huduma Centres for assistance.
