NAIROBI, Kenya- President William Ruto has outlined an ambitious strategy to upgrade the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) as part of his administration’s broader effort to bolster national security.

Speaking during the Kenya Navy’s 60th anniversary celebrations at the Mtongwe Navy Base in Mombasa, the President emphasized the need for modern, resourceful armed forces to ensure peace and stability.

“We are now ready to deploy resources for the modernization of not just our police but also our military,” Ruto said, affirming the government’s commitment to making Kenya safer and more resilient.

Ruto revealed ongoing consultations with the Ministry of Defence and the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) to design a comprehensive modernization plan for the military.

According to the President, these upgrades will align with Kenya’s development goals, underpinned by peace, security, and economic stability.

“Having stabilized the economy and with our housing and universal health coverage plans on course, we are now ready to deploy resources toward modernizing our military,” he announced.

The initiative signals a strategic shift toward enhancing Kenya’s defense capabilities, positioning the KDF as a modern and efficient force.

This effort ties into broader plans, including investments in advanced equipment, training, and infrastructure to support the nation’s security framework.

Beyond modernization, President Ruto underscored the importance of unity and patriotism among Kenyans. He urged KDF personnel to uphold high standards as they represent the country’s values and aspirations.

“We do not have a spare nation. This is our moment to make Kenya great,” he declared, emphasizing that national progress relies on collective effort and unwavering dedication.

The President’s remarks also reaffirmed the government’s support for the military, vowing to create institutions that drive Kenya’s growth and global competitiveness.
