NAIROBI, Kenya — The Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP–K) has declared Former DP Rigathi Gachagua as the spokesperson of the United Opposition, signalling a new phase in Kenya’s shifting political alignments.
In a statement shared on social media, DAP–K Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa said the opposition now speaks with one voice through Gachagua, describing him as “our cousin” and the face of a unified resistance against the current administration.
“The United Opposition has one family spokesperson — Rigathi, our cousin. If anyone wants to reach the opposition, they know the address — go to Wamunyoro and talk to him,” Wamalwa said.
The declaration comes amid heightened political realignments following growing divisions within the ruling coalition and renewed efforts by opposition parties to consolidate their voice ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wamalwa emphasised that unity within the opposition is “not an option but an imperative”, describing it as “the most lethal weapon in the opposition’s arsenal.”
His remarks underscore a developing political strategy aimed at merging opposition forces under a single platform to counter what critics describe as a government that has lost touch with ordinary Kenyans.
The statement has sparked debate within Kenya’s political circles, with analysts noting that Gachagua’s evolving relationship with opposition leaders could redefine the balance of power in the country’s political landscape.
