Jaldesa takes over from Dr. Joyce Mutinda, whose tenure recently came to an end.
The announcement, made via a gazette notice dated December 5, cited the president’s constitutional mandate under Article 250(2).
Jaldesa’s extensive experience in governance and leadership was highlighted as a key factor in her selection.
Jaldesa previously served as Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Tourism, Wildlife, and Heritage under the Jubilee administration before the courts nullified the CAS positions.
She also held the role of Leader of the Opposition in Isiolo County from 2013 to 2017.
An academic achiever, she holds a Master’s degree in Governance and Leadership from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and a Bachelor’s degree in Leadership and Management from St. Paul’s University.
The NGEC, established in 2011, is tasked with promoting and protecting the rights of women, youth, persons with disabilities, children, the elderly, and marginalized communities.
Jaldesa’s leadership is expected to reinforce the commission’s mandate at a time when gender equity issues remain a national priority.
In addition to Jaldesa’s appointment, President Ruto named Michael Nzomo as a member of the gender commission.
