RUAKA, Kenya – Police in Kiambaa have arrested a 26-year-old man believed to be the mastermind of a series of violent robberies that have terrorized residents of Rweno and Kiambaa for months.
The suspect, identified as Stephen Igogo Kariuki, was cornered on Friday evening in the Mifereji area of Ruaka during a targeted operation by officers from Kiambaa Sub-County, acting on intelligence from members of the public.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kariuki was flushed out of his hideout before leading detectives to his residence, where officers recovered a Retay Falcon pistol.
The firearm is suspected to have been used in a spate of robberies in the area.
“The recovered weapon has been forwarded to the National Forensic Laboratory for ballistic analysis to determine whether it was used in recent attacks reported in the region,” said the DCI in a statement.
