NAIROBI, Kenya – Comedian and content creator Lawrence Macharia, popularly known as Terence Creative, has announced his resignation as Secretary General of the Digital Content Creators Association of Kenya (DCCAK), bringing attention to a leadership dispute that the organisation says began six months earlier.

Terence announced his departure on Sunday, November 2, 2026, through a formal resignation letter addressed to DCCAK Chairman Bob Ndolo and members of the association’s Executive Committee.

He indicated that his resignation would take immediate effect but did not provide a specific reason for leaving the position.

In his letter, the comedian thanked the association for allowing him to serve and assured fellow content creators that he would remain involved in developing Kenya’s creative industry.

“I hereby tender my resignation as Secretary General of the Digital Content Creators Association of Kenya (DCCAK), effective immediately. Thank you for the opportunity to serve the Association,” he wrote.

He also emphasised that leaving the association’s leadership would not end his involvement in supporting other creatives.

“My commitment to creative empowerment remains strong. I will continue supporting creators through skills development, mentorship and opportunities that promote sustainable livelihoods in Kenya’s creative economy,” he added.

In a separate message shared on his social media platforms, Terence expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and said he looked forward to continuing his work within the creative industry.

“Grateful for the opportunity to serve. As I step down, I look forward to empowering creatives, opening doors for others and contributing to the growth of Kenya’s creative industry,” he shared.

However, Terence’s announcement prompted a response from DCCAK, which challenged the circumstances surrounding his departure and revealed that its board had suspended him on May 2, 2026.

In a clarification published on November 3, the association said it had taken administrative action against the comedian following rape allegations made against him in connection with an incident at a massage parlour in Kiambu County.

The allegations attracted public attention after a woman working at the establishment made claims against the content creator. The matter reportedly came under investigation by the relevant criminal justice agencies.

DCCAK supported its explanation with a suspension letter dated May 2, 2026, signed by its chairman, Bob Ndolo.

The letter formally notified Terence of the board’s decision to suspend him from his position as Secretary General with immediate effect.

“The Board of Directors of the Digital Content Creators Association of Kenya (DCCAK) hereby formally notifies you of its resolution to suspend you from your position as Secretary General of the Association, with immediate effect,” the letter stated.

The board explained that it had taken the decision after considering the allegations circulating on social media and information that the matter was under investigation.

It further stated that the action aimed to protect the association’s reputation and operations while allowing the relevant processes to take place.

“Given the sensitivity of these developments and the imperative to safeguard the integrity, reputation, and operations of the Association, the Board has deemed it necessary to take this precautionary administrative action pending the conclusion of due process,” the letter read.

DCCAK also instructed Terence to step aside from all responsibilities attached to his office until the matter was resolved.

In its May letter, the board stated that the administrative decision did not amount to a finding or admission of wrongdoing. It also affirmed Terence’s right to a fair hearing and the presumption of innocence.

The suspension letter stated: “The Association fully upholds your right to a fair hearing and the presumption of innocence.”

DCCAK subsequently appointed Joan Wanjiku Waweru as Acting Secretary General to oversee the responsibilities attached to the office during Terence’s suspension.

In its November clarification, the association said it had not received an official update on the status or resolution of the allegations.
