Uproar as Israeli Soldier is Seen Smashing Jesus Christ’s Statue in Lebanon

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Outrage is spreading across social media and parts of the Middle East after a video allegedly showing an Israeli soldier vandalizing a statue of Jesus Christ in southern Lebanon began circulating online.

The footage appears to show a uniformed individual striking a Christian statue with a sledgehammer, knocking parts of it to the ground.

The incident is said to have taken place in an area near the tense border zone between Lebanon and Israel, where cross-border hostilities have flared repeatedly in recent months.

The act has drawn sharp condemnation from religious leaders and online commentators, many of whom describe it as a provocation against Christian communities in the region.

Israeli officials have confirmed the authenticity of the image and said an investigation has been launched.

The military added that an investigation had been opened and that “appropriate measures will be taken against those involved in accordance with the findings”.

Lebanon is home to a significant Christian population, and religious symbols such as statues of Jesus Christ carry deep cultural and spiritual significance.

Critics argue that the incident risks inflaming already fragile tensions, particularly amid ongoing clashes involving Israeli forces and groups such as Hezbollah along the southern frontier.

The images have struck a nerve, amplifying fears that the conflict’s spillover effects could deepen religious sensitivities and further destabilize an already volatile region.
