Interswitch Partners with Elie Tech to Transform Kenyan MSME Payments with Tumatap

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Interswitch East Africa (Kenya) Limited, a leader in integrated payments and digital commerce, has announced a strategic partnership with Elie Technologies Proprietary Limited, trading as Tuma.

This collaboration aims to launch Tumatap, an innovative contactless payment solution tailored for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Kenya.

Gone are the days when merchants needed bulky hardware to accept payments.

Tumatap enables MSMEs to transform any Android, iOS smartphone, or even a feature phone into a fully functional point-of-sale (POS) system.

This cutting-edge solution supports contactless payments, allowing customers to simply tap their cards or devices on a merchant’s phone for seamless transactions.

The convenience and efficiency of this technology promise to empower small business owners, providing them with an affordable way to enhance their payment processes and, ultimately, grow their businesses.

The partnership between Interswitch and Elie Tech is not just about introducing a new product; it’s about reshaping the financial landscape for Kenyan MSMEs.

Leveraging Interswitch’s robust expertise in switching and processing, combined with Elie Tech’s innovative soft POS technology, the collaboration offers real-time transaction processing, enhanced fraud protection, and valuable data insights.

These features are particularly beneficial for small businesses, enabling them to monitor customer behavior and optimize performance, all while reducing transaction costs.

Peter Kawumi, Regional Managing Director at Interswitch East Africa, highlighted the significance of this partnership.

“At Interswitch, we are dedicated to building a more financially inclusive ecosystem, and this collaboration reinforces that commitment. Together, we are reshaping the payment landscape in the market,” Peter stated.

Wesley Masinde, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Tuma Inc., echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the transformative potential of Tumatap for MSMEs: “Our partnership with Interswitch is a game-changer for MSMEs in Kenya.”

By combining our innovative contactless merchant acquiring soft POS technology with Interswitch’s robust switching and card processing capabilities, we are equipping merchants with a powerful tool to enhance their payment processes and grow their businesses,” he concluded.

The real-time data collected from transactions allows business owners to better understand customer behavior, helping them make informed decisions that can lead to increased profitability.

This is especially crucial for MSMEs operating in diverse sectors such as Hotels, Restaurants, Cafeterias (HORECO), Bars, Lounges, Wines and Spirits outlets, Cosmetics outlets, Spas, Pharmaceutical Shops, and Small-scale retail kiosks.
