NAIROBI, Kenya- Kenya’s leading telecommunications company, Safaricom, has unveiled ambitious plans to introduce a comprehensive device insurance solution designed to protect over a million gadgets.
The telco is calling on industry players to submit proposals for a cutting-edge insurance program that integrates seamlessly with its existing infrastructure, including the Safaricom Insurance Agency Limited (SIAL).
With the holiday season underway, this initiative offers a glimpse into the future of digital connectivity and security—a festive gift for Safaricom’s tech-savvy customers.
Safaricom’s proposed insurance solution will cater to devices valued between Ksh 5,000 and Ksh 300,000, offering three distinct coverage tiers:
- Tier 1: Covers accidental screen damage.
- Tier 2: Includes screen and physical damage.
- Tier 3: Comprehensive protection against physical damage, theft, and loss.
The coverage will also shield users from risks such as accidental and liquid damage, fire, natural disasters, mechanical or electrical breakdowns, and even incidents during international travel.
To make the process seamless, Safaricom requires its future partner to offer both embedded and opt-in models, ensuring flexibility for customers.
Safaricom is raising the bar for insurance standards by emphasizing speedy and paperless claims management. The selected partner must:
- Approve claims within 24 hours.
- Repair or replace devices within seven working days.
- Offer cashless repairs at authorized centers.
Additionally, device replacements will be facilitated at Safaricom shops or authorized partners, with a commitment to zero depreciation for devices less than a year old. For convenience, repair vouchers will include free pickup and drop-off services.
The solution must be built with an eye toward API-based data exchange, 99.9pc uptime, and omnichannel scalability to cater to Safaricom’s growing customer base.
Real-time dashboards and detailed reports will further streamline the service, providing transparency and performance insights.
To qualify, bidders must demonstrate financial stability, registration with Kenya’s Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), and technical expertise to deliver the proposed solution.
Submissions must include a detailed company profile, implementation roadmap, client testimonials, policy terms, and a Service Level Agreement (SLA).Proposals are due via Safaricom’s I-Sourcing portal by 5:00 PM on January 7, 2025, with file sharing exclusively through OneDrive.
