Economic Fortunes: Tana River County Leverages on Urbanisation to Develop Sustainable Opportunities

Date:

TANA RIVER, Kenya – Tana River County’s ambitious urbanisation agenda has received a shot in the arm following the announcement of a groundbreaking partnership between the devolved unit and ConKrite, a leading Canadian company.

The agreement will result in constructing a multi-million-dollar Agro-City in Tana River, a significant turning point in the County’s transformation from a predominantly rural County to a thriving urban County.

The project was unveiled after ConKrite’s Chief Executive Officer, Nicolas Del Valle, paid a courtesy call to Tana River Governor Dhadho Gaddae Godhana at the Governor’s official residence in Hola town. The project is expected to become a cornerstone of the County’s development strategy.

Speaking at the event, Del Valle underlined Tana River County’s anticipated revolutionary change due to the Agro-City.

“This project is not just about urbanisation; it is about creating sustainable opportunities for the people of Tana River. We are committed to working hand in hand with the County Government to achieve this vision,” said Del Valle.

What is the likely impact of the proposed Agro-City project

According to Del Valle, the agro-city will create hundreds of jobs for the youth, women, and farmers, fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents.

Y News has established that urbanisation is one of Governor Godhana’s administration’s main tenets. The regional government states that collaborating with ConKrite is critical in achieving that goal.

Governor Godhana emphasised how crucial the project is to Tana River’s transformation from a rural to an urban county, which he thinks will benefit everyone on a social and economic level.

“The people of Tana River have been waiting a long time for this revolutionary project. Our goal has always been to build a county that is competitive nationally and self-sufficient. This Agro-City will symbolise our dedication to advancement and growth,” Governor Godhana stated.

The county boss further said that his administration was excited to work with ConKrite to usher in a new era for Tana River.

“Tana River is becoming increasingly popular as a strategic investment destination, as seen by ConKrite’s dedication to this project. To guarantee that the Agro-City not only satisfies the highest standards of urban development but also complements the County’s more general objectives of sustainability and inclusivity,” the Governor explained.

How Tana River residents reacted to the proposed project

While responding to the move, Funahash Antony, a county resident, poured cold water on the project, claiming it would fail without checks and balances.

“Tana River County is one of the most improved counties that receive a lot of money, but the problem is that we fail to plan, follow up, monitor, and evaluate such projects,” Antony said.

Meanwhile, Del Valle and Governor Godhana voiced hope for Tana River County’s future and the advantages the Agro-City will bring its citizens.

Y News understands that through the partnership, the County Government will embark on a new phase of development that will build a sustainable urban environment that fosters economic growth and improves the lives of its citizens.

To ensure the project’s success, the County Government and ConKrite will work together to oversee its implementation, which is anticipated to begin in the upcoming months.
