Education Ministry Opens Fresh Window for Grade 10 Placement Review

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- The Ministry of Education has announced a new opportunity for learners and parents to seek a review of Grade 10 senior school placements, as the country prepares for the reopening of schools for Term One, 2026.

In a statement, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said the first revision of placements to senior schools was completed on December 29, 2025, with joining instructions made available on the placement portal from December 30.

Learners who were already placed can access their joining instructions through the official portal at www.placement.education.go.ke.

Ogamba said the Ministry will now reopen the placement review window from January 6 to January 9, 2026, allowing learners and parents to submit legitimate and verifiable reasons for reconsideration of both initial and revised placements.

“The revision will provide parents, guardians and learners the opportunity to provide legitimate and verifiable grounds to justify a reconsideration of the initial or revised placement,” the Cabinet Secretary said.

Requests for review can be initiated through the learner’s former junior school or at the senior school of interest. However, the applications must be formally submitted by the head of the institution via the placement portal and will be processed according to Ministry guidelines already in place.

The Ministry said the review process is aimed at ensuring unhindered access to education, optimal utilisation of available resources, and addressing genuine outstanding placement needs.

Schools are scheduled to reopen for Term One on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Ogamba added that Ministry field officers, under the supervision of Regional and County Directors of Education, will be deployed to monitor compliance with the academic calendar as schools resume learning activities nationwide.
