NCA Identifies Owner of Collapsed South C Building as Yussuf Mohamed Yusuf

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The National Construction Authority (NCA) has identified Yussuf Mohamed Yusuf as the owner of the multi-storey building that collapsed in South C, Nairobi, in the early hours of Friday morning.

In a press statement, the Authority confirmed that the building, which was under construction near South C Shopping Centre and Nairobi South Hospital, collapsed on January 2, 2026, prompting an emergency response by rescue and security agencies.

According to NCA, the structure was a proposed mixed-use development located on Munohu Avenue, plot number 68/1306, in South Ward, Lang’ata Sub-County.

The Authority revealed that the project, which was registered on November 8, 2023, was non-compliant at the time of collapse.

The developer on record is Abyan Consulting Limited, which also served as the contractor for the project.

The building contractor is registered under NCA Category 4 (Building Works), with Yussuf Mohamed Yusuf listed as the company’s sole director.

NCA further disclosed that the project consultants included Architect Gideon Chege Mwangi, Engineer Peter Kimani Kireru, and Quantity Surveyor James Kiragu Njoroge, all of whom were officially registered for the development.

Following the incident, emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the site, with search-and-rescue operations and site securing activities ongoing at the time the statement was issued.

The operations are being carried out in coordination with relevant emergency and security agencies.

The Authority said a comprehensive report on the collapse will be released once investigations are concluded.

“The Authority reiterates its commitment to safeguarding public safety, ensuring accountability within the construction industry, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism and compliance across all construction projects nationwide,” the statement read.

Building collapses remain a persistent concern in Nairobi, with regulators facing mounting pressure to enforce compliance and hold developers, contractors and consultants accountable.
