NAIROBI, Kenya– President William Samoei Ruto has reappointed Bishop Dr. Stephen Kiptoem Mairori as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) for another three-year term, effective January 20, 2026.
The reappointment was formalised in Gazette Notice No. 263, published on January 9, 2026, and underscores the government’s continued commitment to strengthening the fight against alcohol and substance abuse across Kenya.
In welcoming the extension, NACADA described the move as a strong endorsement of the authority’s leadership and a clear signal that the government intends to maintain momentum in its campaign against drug and alcohol misuse.
Under Bishop Dr. Mairori’s leadership, NACADA has intensified its focus on community engagement, policy enforcement, and public education, working closely with national and county governments, civil society, and faith-based organisations to tackle alcohol and drug abuse at grassroots levels.
The Authority’s strategic approach aims to reduce the prevalence of harmful substance use by promoting prevention, rehabilitation, and regulatory compliance, including the enforcement of laws that restrict alcohol sales near schools and curb irresponsible advertising.
In a statement, NACADA thanked President Ruto for his confidence in Bishop Mairori’s leadership and pledged continued support as he steers NACADA’s strategic direction, emphasising his “visionary leadership and deep integrity” as key assets in the push towards a drug-free nation.
Bishop Mairori first assumed the role of NACADA Board Chair in 2023 and has since overseen initiatives aimed at deepening community-based prevention services, strengthening county-level coordination and promoting rehabilitation frameworks that offer alternatives to incarceration for non-violent drug offenders.
