Chipukeezy Explains Why He Walked Away From Sh500K Radio Deal

Comedian and media personality Chipukeezy has set the record straight on one of the most talked-about decisions in his career, walking away from a lucrative radio deal reportedly worth Sh500,000 per month.

In fresh remarks published on, Chipukeezy clarified that his exit from Kiss FM was entirely his own choice, even at a time when the station was ready to meet his salary demands.

At the peak of his radio career, Chipukeezy revealed that he had pushed for a salary increase to Sh500,000, a figure that was initially rejected by management. Instead, his pay was doubled to Sh100,000.

But by the time the station reconsidered and agreed to the Sh500,000 figure to retain him, his decision had already been made.

His focus had shifted.

His mind, as he put it, was set on moving away from traditional radio and into digital content and broader opportunities.

Despite the headline-grabbing numbers, Chipukeezy says the reality behind the money was very different.

At the time, most of his income was tied up in servicing a car loan for a Mitsubishi, leaving him with little disposable cash. To sustain his lifestyle, he relied heavily on side hustles (MC gigs, brand endorsements, and appearances).

He disclosed that he planned his exit carefully, choosing to leave only after clearing his car loan. Once that financial burden was off his shoulders, he felt freer to take risks.

So when the improved offer finally came, it no longer held the same weight.

When he first joined radio, he earned less than Sh50,000 and didn’t even have a formal contract. At the time, he avoided pushing for better pay, worried that he might lose the job, especially knowing how proud his mother was of his position.

Chipukeezy has since built a strong personal brand, remained active in entertainment, and most recently secured a role in government serving as Assistant Director of Protocol and Events in the Executive Office of the President.
