Tanzanian singer Nandy has addressed years of speculation surrounding her relationship with fellow Bongo Flava star Zuchu, dismissing suggestions that the two artists are involved in a bitter rivalry.
Nandy spoke about the speculation on September 13, 2026, during the 40-day celebration of Zuchu and Diamond Platnumz’s daughter in Tanzania. The appearance placed the two singers together publicly and once again drew attention to the relationship between two of Tanzania’s most prominent female musicians.
For years, fans have compared Nandy and Zuchu and placed them in competition over their music careers, popularity and influence in the Tanzanian entertainment industry.
Nandy, however, said the perception does not reflect how the two interact when cameras are not around. Asked whether their friendly interactions were meant to convince the public that they had no bad blood, Nandy dismissed the suggestion.
“No, we weren’t trying to prove anything to anyone. Here, we are just real; we know how we connect when we meet because we run into each other a lot off-camera, at studios, and elsewhere,” she said.
Nandy explained that she and Zuchu regularly cross paths within Tanzania’s music industry.
“Like when I’m recording, or she’s recording, I see her at Swahbiz, at Lizer’s… We chat and talk about a lot of things,” she added.
According to Nandy, their interactions happen naturally because they operate within the same music circles.
The speculation surrounding the two singers has largely grown from comparisons between their careers.
Nandy established herself as one of Tanzania’s leading female artists before Zuchu emerged as a major force under WCB Wasafi, the record label associated with Diamond Platnumz. Zuchu’s rapid rise brought her into a music space where Nandy already had a strong following, prompting fans to compare their songs, achievements and commercial influence.
Social media discussions have frequently turned those comparisons into suggestions of competition or rivalry. At different points, reports and online discussions have also fuelled speculation about tension between the two artists.
However, neither singer’s career requires the other to lose for her to succeed, according to Nandy. Nandy directly rejected the idea that her success and Zuchu’s success should create hostility between them.
“Because she’s a successful artiste, and I’m a successful artiste… the pie is big enough,” she said.
She went on to explain why she does not see a reason for animosity between them.
“Basically, we have no reason to hate each other because everyone is getting what they’re striving for in their music,” Nandy added.
